Boom type, length and speed are specific to the selected model and setup. We’ll agree handedness, detection, control equipment and installation requirements in your quotation. Vehicle identification and safe closing are separate parts of the system.

How should vehicles gain entry?

ANPR uses the vehicle’s number plate. UHF uses an assigned vehicle tag. Both need a compatible control system to decide who can enter.

ZKTeco LPRC100 number plate recognition camera

Number plates / ANPR

Use number plates as the vehicle identifier. Camera position, lighting and approach angle matter, along with a clear process for visitors and unrecognised plates.

Example: LPRC100. NZ plate support and the camera-to-controller interface form part of the system specification.

ZKTeco UHF5 Pro and UHF10 Pro long-range readers

Vehicle tags / UHF

Issue compatible tags to regular users. Choose reader coverage and tag placement around the lane, with a clear process for issuing and revoking credentials.

Examples: UHF5 Pro / UHF10 Pro. The reader, tags and installation determine the working read range.

Explore long-range UHF readers

1. Identify

Camera or reader recognises the vehicle’s plate or tag.

2. Decide

The supported controller/software checks access permissions.

3. Operate

The barrier receives an authorised opening signal.

Identification and safe closing are separate tasks. Vehicle detection, obstruction response and pedestrian separation must be designed and commissioned for the lane.

Specify an entrance, not just a barrier.

Start with the lane and how it will be used. NZTeco supplies barrier hardware and technical advice; your installer plans and commissions the equipment for the site.

Space and clearance

Lane width, cabinet position, overhead restrictions, vehicle sizes and a separate route for pedestrians.

Power and site conditions

Supply, foundations, drainage, exposure and cable routes. Include entry/exit direction, queues and the number of lanes.

Detection and emergency operation

Agree vehicle-presence detection, obstruction response, emergency access and power-loss behaviour with the installer.

Integration and responsibilities

Identify existing readers, controllers and software. Confirm who installs, commissions, manages credentials and maintains the entrance.

Discuss an existing access-control system

Practical project questions.

A clearer site brief helps us recommend an appropriate starting point.

What barrier arm length do I need?

Measure the clear lane width, mounting space and overhead clearance, then include the largest vehicles using the entrance. The available arm and speed depend on the exact barrier model and configuration.

Can I keep my existing access-control system?

Often the starting point is the existing controller and its supported control interface. Send the makes and models of the controller, readers and software so the proposed barrier connection and configuration can be assessed. Compatibility is not assumed across all products.

Does ANPR replace vehicle detection?

No. Number plate recognition identifies a vehicle; it does not by itself confirm that the lane is clear for the boom to close. Detection and obstruction response need their own design and commissioning.

Can these barriers be used outdoors?

Confirm the exact model’s protection rating, operating conditions, drainage and exposure. ProBG8000 and ProBG3000 specify IP54, but suitability still depends on the installation and site conditions.

Who handles installation and commissioning?

NZTeco supplies hardware and technical support. Tell us the site location and whether you already have an installer so installation, commissioning and maintenance responsibilities can be agreed in your quotation.

What should I send for pricing?

Send the site location, lane dimensions, expected traffic, preferred access method and target date. Mention existing equipment and who will install it. Entrance photos or a lane plan are useful during follow-up.

Tell us about your entrance.

Tell us about your site. We’ll recommend suitable barrier hardware and access options, then agree the installation requirements with you and your installer.

Not sure which model or access method fits? Send your location, lane width and any site photos or plans you have.
