Description
The SBTL6000 is the standalone single-lane swing barrier in the SBTL family ? same modular reader design as the FBL6000 Pro flap barrier, but with arms that swing rather than flaps that retract. The mechanical difference is mostly aesthetic; functionally both deliver physical denial with modern visual presentation.
Swing vs flap ? when does it matter?
Both swing barriers (SBTL series) and flap barriers (FBL series) sit in the same modern-aesthetic, physical-denial niche, between optical (no barrier) and tripod (utilitarian). The differences come down to specifics:
- Swing barriers: Glass or acrylic arms pivot horizontally on a hinge. The swept area extends into the lane during operation.
- Flap barriers: Acrylic flaps retract into the cabinet itself. Nothing moves into the lane.
- Practical pick: For very narrow lanes where the swept area of a swing arm is awkward, flap is the cleaner choice. For wider lanes, swing barriers are usually preferred for visual presentation. Most architects pick on aesthetic preference once the practical lane width is established.
Real NZ deployments
- Mid-sized corporate receptions: Single-lane swing barrier as the main reception turnstile in offices that don’t justify multi-lane.
- Government building public entries: Single-lane visitor entry alongside a separate staff route.
- Independent school admin block entries: Single-lane staff entry with audited credential read.
- Health and aged-care facility staff entries: Single-lane staff entry with hygiene-friendly facial recognition.
- Co-working and serviced office entries: Single-lane shared entry with member RFID and visitor QR support.
- Smaller transit and ferry terminals: Single-lane ticketed entry where multi-lane isn’t justified by passenger volume.
Specifying it
- Cabinet: SUS304 stainless steel.
- Arms: Glass or acrylic swinging arms ? confirm aesthetic preference at quote stage.
- Modular readers: Pull-out and plug-in reader bay; supports RFID, fingerprint, QR, palm and facial recognition.
- Operation: Smooth and silent at typical commercial noise levels.
- Emergency mode: Arms retract on power loss and fire-alarm input.
- Multi-lane expansion: Pair with SBTL8200 expansion units to extend into a multi-lane row when site grows.
