ZKTeco WRF100: Wireless Reader and Data Receiving Module with High-Security Data Encryption

The ZKTeco WRF100 is a two-piece wireless card reader system ? a battery-friendly Mifare reader and a separate receiving module that connects to your access controller via standard Wiegand 26/34. The 433 MHz encrypted link runs up to 30 metres line-of-sight, so you can put a reader at a door where running cable is impractical: heritage walls, perimeter gates, portacoms, or the far end of a yard.

Description

The WRF100 is the niche reader installers reach for when cable simply can’t go where the door is. The reader half mounts at the door and reads Mifare cards as normal; the receiver half sits at the controller and feeds standard Wiegand pulses back into your access panel. As far as the panel is concerned, it’s just another Wiegand reader ? there’s no firmware or software change required.

How it differs from the MR100/MR101

The MR100/MR101 are conventional wired readers ? cheap, robust and the default pick whenever you can run cable. The WRF100 is meaningfully more expensive but rescues installs where cable runs would cost more than the reader: heritage buildings, listed sites, sensitive landscaping, gate posts beyond a paved path, modular site offices and short-term temporary doors.

Where it solves real problems in NZ

  • Heritage and listed buildings: Council, museum and church properties where drilling and cable trunking aren’t acceptable.
  • Construction site portacoms and yard offices: Site offices that move every few months ? wireless avoids re-cabling each relocation.
  • Far-edge perimeter gates: Pedestrian gates 20?30 metres from the nearest power and comms cabinet, with no paved path for trenching.
  • Marine berths and waterfront doors: Wet-cable runs are problematic; the receiver sits dry indoors while the reader handles the exposed door.
  • Retrofit on existing buildings: Adding a card reader to an additional door without ripping back to the comms cupboard.
  • Temporary venue access: Events, exhibitions and pop-up retail where a permanent install isn’t justified.

Specifying it

  • Range: Up to 30 metres line-of-sight at 433 MHz. Walls, metal cladding and density of obstacles will reduce that ? survey the site before committing.
  • Reader power: Battery-powered at the reader end with low-power firmware. Plan for periodic battery replacement at the reader during commissioning.
  • Card support: 13.56 MHz Mifare ? reader transmits the UID over the encrypted wireless link.
  • Receiver output: Standard Wiegand 26 or 34 to your existing access controller ? no special panel firmware required.
  • Security: Encrypted RF link between reader and receiver to resist replay attacks on the wireless segment.
