Project Overview
Client
New Zealand College of Chiropractic (NZCC), Mt Wellington, Auckland — a specialist tertiary provider with its main campus at 6 Harrison Road, Mt Wellington, Auckland 1060.
Sector

The Situation
NZCC runs hundreds of student timetables with frequent room changes and tight turnarounds between classes. Manual roll-taking was slow, inconsistent across lecturers, and created disputes around arrivals, early exits, and missed contact time. The college wanted a fast, touchless way to capture class-by-class attendance, with simple reports for academic admin — and the option to reuse the same platform for basic door access where needed.
Key needs: quick clocking at peak changeovers, reliable IN/OUT tracking per room, web-based reporting, and a path to controlled door access.
The Solution
Hardware:
Devices: 6 × ZKTeco SpeedFace V5L (two per room: one for IN, one for OUT) across 3 classrooms. Devices were positioned on each side of the doorway to separate flows and avoid bottlenecks.

Software:
Platform: ZKBio Time 9.0 for browser-based attendance management (timetables, shift/schedule setup, and exportable reports).

Expansion:
Access control expansion: Following early success, NZCC added one SpeedFace V5L to an office area purely for door release, then expanded to a second office door on the same stack (no change of platform).
Why this approach works on a campus
- True class session capture: One reader per direction (IN/OUT) at each door keeps queues short and makes late/early patterns visible in reports.
- Reliable recognition in mixed lighting: V5L uses a WDR camera and visible-light facial recognition to handle bright corridors and shadowed thresholds.
- Admin simplicity: ZKBio Time centralises timetables, schedules and attendance reports; exports drop straight into the college’s existing admin/payroll workflows (we don’t claim deep payroll integration).
Roll-out and expansion
- Phase 1 — Classrooms: We mapped class timetables to ZKBio Time, created student groups, and added clear IN/OUT signage.
- Phase 2 — Office door access: After staff feedback on ease-of-use, NZCC added a single office door on the same device family using the terminal’s built-in lock relay (simple open/close, no extra controller).
- Phase 3 — Second access door: A second door followed, using the same pattern — consistent hardware, one admin console.
Outcomes (early)
- Faster starts and cleaner exits: IN/OUT separation reduced door congestion at the bell, and out-scans cut “lingering” disputes.
- Better data for lecturers/admins: Attendance exceptions (late, early, missed) are now visible per class and exportable in seconds.
- Staff adoption: The same face credential now opens designated office doors, which helped build confidence and consistency across campus.
What made NZTeco a fit

-
Local supply, setup and training in Auckland, with practical advice on directional readers and session-level rules.
-
A platform choice that scales: more classrooms or doors can be added without re-training users.
Tech at a glance
- Terminals: ZKTeco SpeedFace V5L (5″ LCD, 2MP WDR camera, TCP/IP/Wi-Fi, relay outputs; facial recognition with anti-spoofing).
- Software: ZKBio Time 9.0 (web-based; timetables, schedules, reports, exports; ISO-noted by vendor).
- Topology: 2 devices per classroom (IN/OUT), later expanded with door-only endpoints in office areas.
