Description

Overview

The Armatura EP10C Explorer Series is an all-weather outdoor slave reader engineered for commercial, government, and industrial access control applications. This compact mullion-mount reader connects to external access control panels—such as the Armatura AHSC or AHDU series—via industry-standard Wiegand or OSDP v2.2 over RS-485.

Designed to withstand New Zealand’s variable climate, the EP10C features IP68 ingress protection and IK10 impact resistance, making it suitable for exposed outdoor locations, coastal environments, and high-traffic entry points.

Key Features

Dual-Frequency RFID Support

The EP10C reads credentials across 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz frequencies, supporting ISO14443 Type A/B and ISO15693 standards. This enables compatibility with a wide range of proximity and smart card technologies commonly deployed in commercial access control systems.

OSDP v2.2 Secure Communication

Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) v2.2 provides encrypted bidirectional communication between the reader and controller over RS-485. This eliminates vulnerabilities associated with legacy Wiegand wiring while enabling tamper reporting, LED/buzzer control, and secure firmware updates. Communication is protected with AES-128 encryption.

Secure Element with EAL6+ Certified Crypto Chip

Credential data is stored on an EAL6+ certified encryption chip within the reader’s secure element, providing the highest commercial-grade protection against data extraction and tampering.

All-Weather Durability

  • IP68 Rated: Complete protection against dust ingress and submersion in water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes
  • IK10 Rated: Withstands mechanical impacts up to 20 joules
  • UV Stable: Polycarbonate housing maintains structural integrity for 3+ years of outdoor exposure
  • UL94-V0 Flame Rated: Housing material resists sustained combustion

Wide Operating Temperature

The EP10C operates reliably from -30°C to +70°C, suitable for cold stores, coastal installations, and exposed outdoor locations throughout New Zealand.

Tamper Detection

A magnetic tamper switch alerts the access control system if the reader is removed from its mounting surface.

Software Compatibility

Controller Integration

The EP10C is a slave reader requiring connection to an external access control panel. It supports:

  • OSDP v2.2 via RS-485 (up to 128-bit secure channel communication)
  • Wiegand output (legacy controller compatibility)

Compatible with Armatura AHSC and AHDU series controllers, as well as third-party OSDP or Wiegand-compatible panels.

Configuration App

Reader settings including LED colour, buzzer intensity, and operational parameters can be configured via the Armatura Connect mobile app.

Use Cases

Commercial Buildings & Corporate Offices

Deploy on exterior doors, loading docks, and car park entrances where weather resistance and vandal protection are essential.

Government & High-Security Facilities

EAL6+ secure element certification and IEC EN 60839 Grade 4 compliance suit environments requiring robust credential security and tamper detection.

Industrial & Harsh Environments

IP68 and IK10 ratings combined with the extreme temperature range make the EP10C ideal for warehouses, manufacturing plants, cold storage, and marine environments.

Multi-Site Deployments

Wiegand backward compatibility allows integration with existing legacy systems, while OSDP readiness supports future upgrades.

Mounting & Installation

The EP10C is designed for mullion-mount installations on narrow door frames or flat surfaces. Two housing options are available:

  • Standard Cover: Compact profile (48 × 114.8 × 24.7 mm) for mullion mounts
  • Gang Box Cover: Larger faceplate (76.2 × 123 × 24.7 mm) for single-gang electrical boxes

Optional back-box spacers accommodate Asian, European, and single-gang electrical box standards.

Wiring Requirements

  • Power: 9–24 VDC
  • OSDP: RS-485 data lines to controller
  • Wiegand: D0/D1 data lines plus LED and buzzer control as required
